Dog insurance

Dog insurance

Animal health insurance in the sense of dog insurance for dogs offers you, as a dog owner, insurance cover for your dog illnesses .

Regardless of whether your dog needs treatment due to an illness, an accident or even a surgical procedure, dog insurance will cover the veterinary costs incurred. If an operation is necessary, follow-up treatment is of course also included in the insurance coverage.

Depending on the insurer, your dog's medically necessary treatments may have a benefit limit. In our Basic Care variant, the benefit limit is EUR 2,500 per year. In the Classic variant, the annual cost coverage is EUR 5,000 and the Optimal variant of dog insurance has an upper limit of EUR 10,000 per year.

Scope of services

Here is a brief overview of the scope of services offered by dog health insurance:

  • Healing treatments
  • Diagnosis
  • Operation costs
  • Medication

When it comes to diagnostics, imaging procedures such as X-rays, CT or MRI are also insured.

Dog breeds

Depending on the dog breed, diseases such as hip dysplasia, entropion or brachycephalic syndrome are particularly important for the dog owner. These diseases are covered in some animal health insurance tariffs with an extended waiting period. If you would like advice on the typical diseases specific to your dog's breed, please feel free to contact us. Our team of veterinary doctors and insurance experts will be happy to take care of your concerns.

Pre-existing illness

Does your dog have previous illnesses? For example, has your dog already had an operation or does he have other acute illnesses? Here too, you have the option of insuring your loved one - if necessary, excluding the relevant pre-existing illness.

Foreign protection

Dogs are our loyal companions even on vacation - which is why it is important that animal health insurance companies also reimburse veterinary costs abroad. All insurers have their own regulations in the area of foreign protection. Our tariffs always cover foreign protection for up to 12 months of stay abroad at a time. So if you are planning a longer stay abroad, this is not a problem.

Prescription food

The Classic Care and Optimal Care tariffs provide for proportional reimbursement of the feed costs of prescribed special feeds such as diet feed, food for allergy sufferers, etc.

Old dogs

Older dogs over the age of 8 are often no longer included in dog insurance policies. This is different with dog insurance from doc4pets Insurance powered by Smart Paws. You can find more information about this at: Insurance for old dogs

Overview of dog insurance rates for dogs younger than 8 years

Of course, with the insurance from doc4pets powered by Smartpaws, you can also have your animal treated at any other veterinarian and are not tied to our practices!

As you can see below, you can choose between our partner Smartpaws three tariff classes (Optimal, Classic and Basic). It is understandable that you want the best possible care for your dog. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that you should always choose the most expensive plan. Why?

  • On the one hand, young dogs generally do not need as much veterinary care as older dogs, for example
  • In some cases, this is also breed-specific - our experience is that young Labradors increasingly suffer from cruciate ligament tears, which should lead to an appropriate choice of tariff
That's why our tip - if you're unsure whether you even need dog health insurance, then choose a lower tariff - you can upgrade with us at any time!
