Dog insurance

Dog insurance

Pet health insurance in the sense of dog insurance for dogs offers you as a dog owner insurance cover for illnesses of your dog.

Regardless of whether your dog needs treatment due to an illness, an accident or even surgery, the dog insurance will cover the veterinary costs incurred. In the case of a necessary operation, the aftercare is of course also included in the scope of benefits of the insurance.

Depending on the insurer, the medically necessary treatments of your dog are subject to a benefit limit. In our Basic Care variant, the benefit limit is 2,500 EUR per year. In the Classic variant, the annual cost coverage is 5,000 EUR and in the Optimal variant of the dog insurance there is an upper limit of 10,000 EUR per year.

Scope of services

Here is a brief overview of the scope of benefits of dog health insurance:

  • Healing treatments
  • Diagnostics
  • Surgery costs
  • Medicines

Diagnostic imaging procedures such as X-ray, CT or MRI are also covered.

Dog breeds

Depending on the breed of dog, diseases such as hip dysplasia, entropion or brachycephalic syndrome are particularly important for the dog owner. These diseases are covered in some animal health insurance tariffs with an extended waiting period. If you would like advice on the typical diseases specific to your dog's breed, please contact us. Our team of veterinarians and insurance experts will be happy to take care of your request.

Pre-existing conditions

Does your dog have any pre-existing conditions? For example, has your dog already undergone surgery or does he have other acute illnesses? Here, too, there is the possibility of insuring your pet - if necessary, with the exclusion of the corresponding previous illness.

Protection abroad

Even on holiday, dogs are our faithful companions - therefore it is important that the veterinary health insurance policies also reimburse veterinary costs abroad. All insurers have their own regulations in the area of foreign protection. In our tariffs, the foreign protection is always covered and this up to 12 months abroad at a time. So if you are planning a longer stay abroad, this is no problem.

Prescription feed

The Classic Care and Optimal Care tariffs provide for proportional coverage of the cost of prescribed special food such as diet food, food for allergy sufferers, etc. The Classic Care and Optimal Care tariffs also cover the cost of food for allergy sufferers.

Old dogs

Often, older dogs from the age of 8 are no longer included in dog insurance policies. This is different with the dog insurance from doc4pets- Versicherung powered by Smart Paws. You can find more information about this under: Insurance for old dogs

What is not insured?

Pre-existing conditions: We will not pay for any costs associated with the diagnosis or treatment of any illness or injury which occurred or showed symptoms prior to the commencement of cover.
Pregnancy or infertility: Costs related to pregnancy, preeclampsia or infertility are excluded.
Routine or preventive treatments such as vaccinations, flea, tick or worm treatments, grooming, preventive dental treatments or weight control treatments.

Overview of rates for dog insurance for dogs younger than 8 years of age

Of course, with doc4pets powered by Smartpaws insurance, you can also have your pet treated by any other vet and are not tied to our practices!

As you can see below, with our partner Smartpaws you have the choice between Three tariff classes (Optimal, Classic and Basic). It is understandable that you want the best possible care for your dog. However, this does not necessarily mean that you should always choose the most expensive tariff. Why?

  • For one thing, young dogs do not usually need as much veterinary care as older dogs, for example.
  • However, this is also partly breed-specific - our experience is that young Labradors suffer more from cruciate ligament ruptures, which should lead to an appropriate choice of tariff.
Therefore our tip - if you are unsure whether you need a dog health insurance at all, then rather choose a lower tariff - you can upgrade with us at any time!
