Pet insurance - what for?

Due to the new emergency service GOT, but also due to more and more new surgical procedures and healing methods, the medical costs for animals continue to increase, we have made an effort to compile an overview of the best-known animal insurances here.

What are the most important pet insurance policies?

If you are the owner of a dog, a cat or a pet such as a rabbit or guinea pig, you have probably already thought about pet insurance. With such an insurance, you protect your wallet if your companion has to go to the vet or if he accidentally harms other people. Although the insurance covers you comprehensively, you only have to spend manageable amounts of money on it each month. Depending on which pet insurance you choose, the protection will only cost you a few euros a month. This can prevent unpleasant surprises, especially in the case of unexpected operations, which can quickly run into thousands of euros for dogs or cats.

But no matter whether you want to protect yourself from high veterinary costs for your dog, cat or pets, or just want minimum cover in case your pet harms third parties - always compare different offers in advance. Dog liability insurance, for example, can cost you 40 euros or even 140 euros a year.

What pet insurance is available?

Almost 36 million pets live in German households, according to a survey. Cats (over 13.7 million) and dogs (over 9.2 million) and pets (6.1 million) are particularly popular - Source: Industrieverband Heimtierbedarf.

As different as every owner and every animal is, as different are the forms of pet insurance. The following overview shows you which insurances are available and what they provide:

• Dog health insurance: Covers not only surgery costs but also general veterinary costs, for example for outpatient treatment.
• Dog liability insurance: Pays for financial loss, property damage and personal injury caused by the dog to third parties.
• Dog surgery insurance: covers all costs incurred if your four-legged friend has to go under the knife.

• Cat health insurance: In addition to surgery costs, general veterinary treatments are also insured
• Cat surgery insurance: If your cat or cat needs an operation, the costs are covered as agreed in the contract.
• Pet health insurance: Covers not only surgery costs but also general veterinary costs, for example for outpatient treatment.
